Throat cancer

Throat cancers may be referred to various cancers that develop from the upper aero – digestive tract, oral cavity, lip, pharynx, larynx, nasal cavity, and paranasal sinuses. There is a great risk involved in smoking or drinking a lot of alcohol, and a mixture of both in excess quantity may lead to throat cancer.

According to a survey conducted on throat cancer at the beginning of this year. It revealed that in United States, it is estimated that 12,290 people have laryngeal cancer, and 12,610 people have pharyngeal cancer. Apart from this, the death roll due to laryngeal cancer inclined up to 3,660 and 2,230 due to pharyngeal cancer.

The other names of the throat cancer are Laryngeal cancer, Pharyngeal cancer, Glottis cancer and Vocal chord cancer.

The sputum that is coughed out appears to be bloody and a lump may also appear on the neck. So any person showing up these symptoms is more likely to be the victim of throat cancer. A laryngoscope, MRI scan and CT scan will help the doctor to confirm the status of the cancer.

Signs & Symptoms of throat cancer:

  • Pain in the ear
  • Blood coughing
  • Breathing problems
  • Regular weight loss
  • Continues coughing
  • Swelling in the neck
  • Difficulty in swallowing
  • Change in the voice tone
  • Harshness lasting for more than a week
  • A sore throat lasting for a very long period

The above list is the most common throat cancer symptoms, but one doesn’t have to get depressed or disappointed about it, because there is a treatment for throat cancer, In-case it has been detected in the early stages. The treatment basically targets the virus that is causing damage to the throat and it stops spreading of the cancer to the other parts of the body.

Common Causes of Throat cancer:

  • Continues Smoking of tobacco
  • Taking alcohol in excess quantity
  • Positive sign of (HPV) human papillomavirus
  • low intake of nutritional products such as fruits and vegetables
  • Regular Chewing of betel quid, a product commonly used in Asia

A heavy drinker or a smoker with symptoms of sore throat should visit the doctor often. If neglected it may lead to throat cancer.

I have been experiencing a prolonged hoarseness couple with wieight loss for about two months now. This week I have seen a doctor who took blood, urine tests and an exray. Tomorrow I do an ultra sound test. What are the probability thse signs are one indicative of cancer? If so, what are the most effective treatment and which facility provides the best treatment?
