Knowledge Gained from Research about Green Tea:

  • The researchers found that the green tea is chemopreventative agent. A substance is called chemopreventative agent if it contains chemicals which can prevent the growth of harmful cancer cells in the patient’s body.
  • In 50% of the Oral cancer patients who took green tea during the research study, positive results were found.
  • The green tea contains a chemical component called Polyphenols.
  • Very little research done earlier on this chemical component found that it was beneficial in heart diseases and cancer. This research confirms such findings made about the chemical in the past.
  • However, the researchers caution that the findings belong to the initial stages of the research and further studies are still underway.

During the study, some patients who consumed eight cups of green tea three times a day reported of nervousness and sleeping disorder. Apart from this, there were no reports of toxicity. This finding is important according to the researchers. It is because chemicals mostly used to treat cancer always cause certain unavoidable side effects.
