Yes, you can reduce your deep belly fat with little or no change in weight by cutting down on carbohydrate rich food according to a recent study.
Dr Barbara Gower opines that consuming food filled with moderate amount of carbohydrates can help in losing the overall body fat to, which is considered to be a high risk factor in developing diseases such as stroke, type 2 diabetes and coronary artery disease.
The current study was conducted on 69 healthy but overweight men and women. All of them were given a specific diet for 16 weeks. First 8 week period was ‘weight maintenance’ measure while the next 8 weeks were focused on ‘weight loss.’ Throughout this 16 week period, each person consumed 1000 calories less every day.
The diet was of 2 types: The first one was low in fat containing 55% calories from carbohydrates, 18% from protein and 27% from fat. The second was a moderately restricted carbohydrate diet consisting of 39% calories from fat, 18% from protein and 43% from carbohydrates.
It was observed that the people on ‘moderately restricted carb diet had 11% less abdominal fat when compared to those who had low-fat diet.
